TYPBTK(A) | Basic Turbine Knowledge (Aeroplane)
The Basic Turbine Knowledge (Aeroplane) course is a foundational theory course that is an important gateway to success on turbine powered aircraft type rating courses. Whether you are a commercial pilot preparing for your first turbine type rating or are looking to make yourself more employable, holding a Basic Turbine Knowledge exam credit is vital. Although titled ‘Basic’, the syllabus is a highly comprehensive section-by-section breakdown of the inner workings of a turbine or ‘jet’ engine, and goes far beyond simple introductory concepts to ensure you can operate advanced turbine powerplants safely, efficiently, and with deep mechanical understanding. A thorough understanding of the subject matter of this course is essential for safe operations, and a successful result in the Aspeq examination is a requirement for the issue of a BTK credit, which once issued is valid for the lifetime of the holder.
This course is open to anyone who has completed PPLATK(A) and PPLMET.
Costs & Materials
The total cost of this course is $2500. This covers the course fee ($2316.28) and the Aspeq exam($183.72). The total cost can be split as required. If you are able to book your own Aspeq exam, that cost can be removed from the total.
No physical textbook is required for this course. All course material is online, and will be made available on the first day of the course.
A laptop (or tablet) and its charger are required for the course (please let us know if this is a problem, as alternative arrangements can be made if required).

The course will be conducted in Classroom 1, which is the large classroom upstairs in the elevated white building that stands beside the Waikato Aviation main (red brick) building. There is no need to enter the main club building on arrival, please use the external staircase to access the classroom.
Session Times & Attendance
All sessions will begin at the published start time, so please ensure you aim to be on-site 15 minutes prior to the start time to help facilitate a timely start. Sessions will not go over the published end time, however they may on some occasions finish earlier than scheduled.
Note: All 10 sessions must be attended.
